BIM4Collaboration: Why BIM fails – and how it can succeed

Why does BIM not get beyond endless discussions in many projects? What mistakes lead to the failure of digitalization in the construction industry? And what standards are needed to implement BIM efficiently and economically?

Christine Proksch shed light on these questions in her pointed presentation “Has BIM failed?” at BIM World MUNICH.

Taking a critical look at years of practice, she showed how a lack of standards, endless Excel lists and unstructured data are holding back progress. The importance of clear, uniform data structures and the need for genuine collaboration was particularly emphasized. While high costs and long implementation times are often cited as arguments against BIM, these problems usually arise due to a lack of structure and standards. However, with the right approach BIM can become a powerful tool for the entire life cycle of a building.
